By the strangest of coincidences seven months after the South America ran aground the Abertay was wrecked alongside her, as if they were berthed in port. Having run ashore in fog the crew hailed the much larger ship, on receiving no reply they boarded her as their ship was thought to be about to sink. The Newlyn lifeboat attended but was not required. 10/14/1912.
In September 1983 a small airplane hit a power line and crashed at Fourth and Eutaw streets in New Cumberland. Four people died.
Just eight months later on May 7, 1984, another plane crashed in New Cumberland.
The twin-engine Cessna 310K crashed into a home at 616 Coolidge St. causing the home to explode in flames because a natural gas line was severed.
The crash killed the pilot, Robert J. Boylan, 30, o f New Jersey, and homeowner Ralph C. Wible, 79, who was in his kitchen.
“It was horrific,” said Terry Stoner in a 1999 Patriot-News story. Stoner was mayor of New Cumberland at the time of the crash.
Just off the New Jersey coast, lies the skeletons of forsaken ships, sunken and stuck in coastal mud in the Arthur Kill Ship Graveyard. Freehold resident Chad Aaronson shared this eerie drone footage with us and you can see the rest at NJ.com/news. || 🎥 credit: @jerseydrone

A DC-3 flying for Arall Colombia crashed at Puerto Gaitan today after the left engine failed and the crew returned to the airport. All three crew survived; 2 were taken to a hospital.
The same plane was involved in an incident with the same airline and the same airport in 2004, when the right engine experienced problems and the plane left the runway after landing.
Especially sad to lose such a venerable old bird. This DC-3, HK-2663, first flew in 1945.
